Misschien loop ik een beetje op de zaken vooruit, maar voordat Snow Leopard volgende maand op de spreekwoordelijke deurmat valt heb ik een vraag; Wat is de beste optie voor het installeren van Snow Leopard; - Verse install - Upgraden van Leopard - Archive/Install (Snow Leopard naast Leopard installeren) Ik zit zelf te denken aan een verse install, maar hoe zit dit dan bijvoorbeeld met mijn Aperture Library, kan deze gewoon gerestored worden en van dat soort vragen... Ah, daar is ie weer. De meningen verschillen... maar iedereen zal ongetwijfeld bereid zijn om je te vertellen welke van de drie hij prefereert. En als dat nog niet genoeg is dan kun je ook even zoeken natuurlijk want dit is echt een FAQje. Helaas alleen zonder een eenduidig antwoord. Maak er een pol van zou ik zeggen, want de argumenten zijn al vaak genoeg herhaald.

Some of the changes and enhancements to the Snow Leopard installation process are as follows: Although Rosetta and Quicktime 7 are both included on the Mac OS X 10.6 installation DVD, both are designated as optional installs by default. However, if Mac OS X 10.6 is being installed on a Mac that contains a registration a key for Quicktime 7 Pro, the installer will install Quicktime 7 automatically. Options to "Erase and Install" and "Archive and Install" are no longer present in the Mac OS X 10.6 installer. According to those familiar with the software, this was done for convenience, so that users do not accidentally erase and install their Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard partitions. However, "Erase and Install" remains available through Disk Utility, which is also included on the installation DVD. If you need to reinstall 10.6, it automatically archives and installs for you. A reinstallation will not affect your Mac OS X version number. In other words, reinstallation of Mac OS X 10.6 on a Mac that contains Mac OS X 10.6.1 (when it becomes available) will not overwrite any new components delivered by 10.6.1. So when the re-install is complete, you will still be running Mac OS X 10.6.1. This will save users considerable time. There is no "Previous System" folder at the root level after reinstalling. If a power outage occurs, installation will pick up from where it left off. To prevent the Blue Screen error that plagued some users when upgrading to Mac OS X 10.5, a software compatibility check is included that has a list of known "bad" apps, and disables them. Those programs are moved to an "Incompatible Software" folder. Unlike Mac OS X 10.5, you cannot install Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard on computers where the hard drive reports a S.M.A.R.T. failure. Installation initially triggers a large chunk of data to be copied from the installation DVD to the user's primary hard drive. The bulk of the installation is then managed from the hard drive, speeding up the installation process considerably. After a successful installation, that large chunk of data is automatically removed.

Altijd een Erase & Install bij een nieuwe Mac OS X versie. Scheelt bewezen (vooral toen Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard uitkwam) een heleboel gezeik. Heel wat mensen hier waren langer bezig met het oplossen van hun sores dan ik met het opzetten van me nieuwe installatie. :D

En waarom zou een Erase & Install functioneler zijn dan een Archive & Install? Effect hetzelfde; tijdsbesparing fors; kans op fouten nil.

Ik denk dat op de DVD van OSX beslist de nodige informatie zal staan hieromtrend? Bij een "Erase and install" mag je een ganse boel (documenten, programma's) herplaatsen denk ik? Maar dat zal dan wel met migratieassistent mogelijk zijn? Ik heb namelijk via "SuperDuper" dagelijks een kloon van mijn volledige Macintosh HD op externe FW schijf. Ik heb migratieassitent nog nooit nodig gehad, maar misschien bij SL wel,.... lukt dit via externe HD?

Ik gok dat vlak voor de release van Leopard deze vraag ook aan bod is gekomen. Wie zoekt dat topic even op? Dan hoeven we onszelf niet te herhalen.

En dan gewoon met migratieassistent vanaf een extern schijfje alles terugzetten zoals mail, itunes library,... ?

NI3LS Jups, altijd een verse instal. Dat geeft tevens een fris gevoel. :P
Heb ik ook, geeft toch een beter gevoel ook. En hij is eens opgeruimd.

Ik denk wel dat ik het zo ga aanpakken. Geeft me meteen ook de mogelijkheid om alle bestanden op te schonen. Zo heb je een echt vers systeem.

Wel ik heb die migratieassistent nog nooit gebruik, Leopard zat bij mijn iMac, vandaar. Ik zit vooral "in" met apps zoals 1PassWord enz... de andere software heb ik de installatieschijfjes liggen en heb zowiezo een TM backup en een kloon dus van mijn Macintosh HD op Firewire schijf.

Is de "Migratie-assistent" dan niet veiliger? Sorry dat ik er even op doorboom, nog nooit eerder gebruikt. Ook las ik ergens iets van om dan in Target-mode te werken.

kan je bij de migratie assistent ook aangeven dat alleen bepaalde voorkeuren en of mapjes moeten worden terug gezet? Dus niet de hele library bijvoorbeeld maar alleen de map adobe in application support in de library?
