LiveType is working very slow

Whenever I use Livetype for my titels in Final Cut Express, it works realy slow. I had the settings set the same as in FCE but when I write a new title at firts I only see bullets and there's a big delay in showing the actual fonts. Also I scrolling along the timeline is really difficult with lot's of hickups. I'm working with an external harddisk on firewire for my scratchdisk.
